SAGE, the all-women’s jazz, blues and contemporary ensemble, is a collective of talented musicians that has dared to rise to this historic place in music with a sound that transcends time and generation. Part contemporary, part sassy, part nostalgic, these ladies deliver what every music audience is looking for, the best in the art.
SAGE features Lakecia Benjamin and Chelsea Baratz on saxophone, Yayoi Ikawa and Miki Hayama on piano, Mimi Jones and Kim Clarke on bass, Charisa The Violin Diva on violin/vocals and Kersten Stevens on violin with Shirazette Tinnin and Taylor Moore on drums. The group has also featured many other talented musicians, namely; Tia Fuller, Mala Waldron, Bernice Brooks, Ragan Whiteside, Camille Thurman, Endea Owens, Luciana Padmore, Barbara Merjan, Caylen Bryant and Dinah Vero. SAGE members have opened for and appeared with Ray Charles, Denzel Washington, Regina Carter, the Duke Ellington Show Choir and many others. This unique group has headlined at major Inaugural Balls honoring President Obama, Major League Baseball All Stars Games and World Classic in San Diego, JAZZMOBILE, The Waldorf Astoria, The Schomburg Center and the Martha's Vineyard Jazz and Blues Summerfest.
Miki Hayama
Sammulous is a seven-time first-place winner at the prestigious Apollo Theater, where his exceptional talent in singing, songwriting, and acting shines. Renowned for his versatile five-octave range and expertise across diverse musical genres, including jazz, pop, rock, Motown, and more, Sammulous has earned acclaim from industry luminaries. His versatility extends to production shows, live bands, corporate events, and solo cabarets, captivating audiences globally.
Collaborating with icons like Valerie Simpson and Chaka Khan, Sammulous continues to leave his mark on the industry. His triumphs at The Apollo, praise from judges on 'America's Got Talent,' including Simon Cowell and Heidi Klum, and appearances as a guest entertainer on leading cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean, MSC, and Princess Cruise Lines, and break out performance at the Martha's Vineyard Jazz and Blues Summerfest attest to his undeniable excellence.
A former street musician, James has produced 9 CD projects for andjam, co produced 5 CD projects for 13 stories records, 2 performances for US State department, Musical director for African American churches Inaugural ball for president Obama 2013. Musical director for the “COMPANY FREAK BAND”. James has also worked with Hip Hop rapper producer, Heavy D, and Jazz violinist Regina Carter.
James “Jimbo Ro” Rohlehr, (pronounced Rolair) is a gifted guitarist, singer, songwriter, composer and producer, with West Indian roots. He’s received 2 National Endowment for the arts Fellowships, and studied with John Lewis, John Corigliano, George Morel, and Jack Wilkins. James is the Winner of the 1997 President’s Award for songwriting from the Songwriters Guild of America for excellence in the Art and Craft of songwriting.
Sounds of A&R aka S.O.A.R., winner of the Jazzmobile/Hot House Magazine 2019 Best New Jazz Ensemble of the Year award, is the brainchild of vocalist April May Webb and Trumpeter Randall Haywood. Partners in music and life, April and Randall have come together creating a distinct sound.
Sounds of A&R has been making their mark in the New York scene, wowing audiences on stages such as Dizzy’s Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Birdland Jazz Club, Minton’s Playhouse and the legendary Apollo Theater. In 2015, their single “Horizon” peaked at #17 on The Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts. Also, Their self-titled debut album, made the Jazz Week top 20 Chart and ended up on Jazz Week’s top 100 albums of the year 2017. In 2019 S.O.A.R. released their single “The Road To Love’s Destiny” which landed on Billboard’s chart climbing to #32.
The Soul Synergy Orchestra is an eight - twelve member ensemble, featuring horns and strings, that is taking the east coast by storm appearing at the Inaugural Ball with Hugh Masekela, The Martha's Vineyard Summerfest with Nicholas David of NBC's The Voice and the marvelous Yonkers Riverfest. The music of Prince, Chaka, and Luther comes to life and rocks you back to the sound of real R&B
Vibraphonist, Composer Jay Hoggard’s music has touched the hearts and souls of listeners around Planet Earth for 40 years. Jay Hoggard has long ranked with the greatest vibraphone innovators. Jay’s music is positive, spiritual, uplifting, and happy. He masterfully draws on traditional and contemporary musical vocabulary to develop new directions for the vibraphone. Jay seamlessly blends jazz and gospel roots with African marimba rhythms. His performance repertoire represents the three B’s of the jazz tradition (Blues, Bop, Ballads) with original innovations.
